Saturated fatty acids are vital for the body to function efficiently. They are critical for maintaining the structure of our cell membranes and for regulating hormones, they strengthen our immune system and promote healthy skin, are crucial for absorbing vitamins, in particular calcium which aids strong bones and teeth (one of the reason why skim milk is not nutritionally beneficial) they aid digestion, help with weight control and food cravings,  are carriers of the fat soluble vitamins A, D, E and K and are vital for the utilisation of omega-3 fatty acids, the body cannot use these important vitamins and fatty acids without saturated fat present in the diet.

When choosing saturated fats from animal sources, be sure that they are pastured and grass fed, this is very important as animals fed grain do not provide the same benefits!
